Flax and Hemp are two of the most common bast fibers that are used for making clothing, linens and other uses. We will specialize in preparing and spinning flax into linen yarn in the morning. Using many methods of preparing it for spinning, it will include dressing a distaff to spinning flax from a towel. In the afternoon we will explore hemp and a couple different methods of spinning this fascinating fiber into usable yarns. A discussion about dyeing bast fibers as well as how to finish and store bast fibers will be included in the days study.
