Scandinavian Rag Rugs

Dates: March 20 - March 23

Cost per ticket: $485.00

About Class

Think you know everything there is to know about weaving rag rugs? Where here is the workshop that will make you rethink what you already know. So, what is so different about the rag rugs woven by our friends to the North? The basics are the same, but with some variations in the materials and rag preparations. I have made a lot of comparisons between the typical rag rug woven here in the USA and rag rugs from Scandinavia and want to share with you what I have found.

In this workshop you’ll be weaving on pre-warped looms that are threaded to a familiar Rose Path threading. We will be using 12/6 cotton rug warp from Sweden for our warp. The weft materials will be cotton rags that are cut or torn to a noticeably narrower width so that they pack down into the warp for a tight and thick rug. Several patterning possibilities will be shown. You will have the opportunity to weave two sample rugs with different patterns or pick one pattern for your rug during the time we will have together.

The weft materials will not be provided so bring your cotton and cotton flannel sheets. If you have to buy fabric, please bring at least 8 yards of 1 color or 5 yards of 2 or more colors. All fabric should be washed but NOT cut.
