Dates: October 25 - October 26
Cost per ticket: $285.00
Handwoven tape was vital to the lives of PA German farm families throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries. In those pre-zipper days, because of their strength, these long, narrow bands of cloth were used traditionally for many tying needs, from tying their clothes ~ stocking garters, apron
straps, to drawstrings for women’s petticoats -to many strapping needs around the farm.
Students learn the Colonial history of handwoven tape and explore the three different styles of tape looms. Studying the process of tape weaving, they learn to read a ‘draft’ and ‘dress’ the loom. Students have fun weaving traditional patterns, along with some contemporary tape pattern ideas.
A variety of tape looms will be provided but you can bring your own UN-WARPED loom if you wish. No experience necessary!
All classes run 9am - 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the description above.
For class dates that are full, please feel free to call us here at the studio and have your name place on the wait list.
