You will thank Joan Ruane for teaching you how to properly spin and yes, enjoy spinning cotton. Spinning cotton yarn can be enjoyable once you have learned the tricks of the trade. You will also learn how to do a long draw, an essential technique in spinning cotton. Students will examine many varieties of cotton and will learn how to properly prepare these short stapled fibers. In addition we will explore specialty wheels such as the great wheel and charka and how they differ from our commonly used spinning wheels. You will learn how to adjust and set up your spinning wheel to facilitate spinning cotton, double drive and Scotch tension wheels work best. All materials are included with tuition.
All classes run 9am - 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the description above.

This class's instructor
First a professional teacher and then a spinner, Joan Ruane has been teaching spinning classes throughout the U.S., Canada, UK and New Zealand since 1980. Active in local and regional Guilds, she has also owned and operated fiber shops in both Florida and Arizona.
