Weaving with modern, manmade fibers such as Tencel, Rayon and Bamboo is an exciting and economical way to weave silk-like fabrics for far less. As an instructor we often breeze over these fibers and suggest them for beginners to try, but what do we know about them really? Although made from plant materials how are these new fibers manufactured, what are their environmental impacts and how have they changed the fiber industry both commercial and for the home hobby consumer.
In addition to our discussions on the manufacturing process, students will also be introduced to the unique characteristics of these fibers. Students will learn how to calculate the appropriate sett for the structure that we will be weaving, anticipate shrinkage, warping considerations, compare its’ wide range of applications and finishing. Join us for this fun lecture to build your confidence to take on Rayon, Tencel or Bamboo for the first time, or just get to know it better! Lecture will include slide presentation, demonstrations and a free project guide with patterns included.
This is a 2 hour lecture starting at 6:00PM
All classes run 9am - 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the description above.
