Many weavers can follow a pattern from a book or magazine article but lack the confidence to venture out on their own to create the 8 shaft threading, tie-up and treadling. During this class you will learn how to find the proper sett for a chosen thread, and how to properly beat and weave it for the desired fabric you are looking for. Through drafting numerous 8 shaft examples you will quickly see what works and what doesn’t work in a tie-up and treadling. Students will be shown dozens of examples of 8 shaft fabrics that have been woven using a gamp format. The twill gamp is comprised of five different threadings in the same warp. Students will be shown how to treadle “Tromp as Writ” for each tie-up and threading pattern. By changing the weft threads and varying the treadling, dozens more possibilities become apparent. For anyone interested in weaving their own gamp, a kit with pre-wound warp and instructions is available. Simply choose your weft color. All materials other than additional kit included with tuition.
All classes run 9am - 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the description above.
