Dates: November 8, 2021 - November 8, 2021
Cost per ticket: $145.00
Andean Pebble Weave, perhaps the most easily recognized of the many pick-up weaving techniques practiced in Peru and Bolivia, is not only beautiful to behold but also a pleasure to weave. Indigenous weavers use geometric, animal, plant and human figures posed on the dotted or “pebbled” background characteristic of this weave to decorate carrying cloths, ponchos, coca leaf bags, belts and sashes. You will learn two methods for creating beautiful Andean Pebble Weave patterns that are perfectly suited to the particular characteristics of the standard inkle loom.
This is an online course ONLY. Participants must be comfortable with their inkle loom and be competent weavers of warp-faced plain-weave bands. They do not need to have prior experience with creating pick-up patterns. The miniature toy-like tinkle looms, looms with shafts like the Wave looms, or rigid heddle looms are NOT suitable for this course. If participants are borrowing looms for the class, they should make sure that they are familiar with them.
During this online course with Laverne, you will have 2 non-consecutive classes broken up in 3 hours for each session. There will be 1 week in between class dates to allow time for you to weave on your own before continuing. Laverne will be available for one-on-one Zoom consultation between sessions if people run into problems. Instructions will be sent to the participants several weeks in advance so looms are warped and shuttles are loaded before the start of class.
Class dates are November 8 and 15, 2021 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.
All classes run 9am - 5pm unless otherwise indicated in the description above.
For class dates that are full, please feel free to call us here at the studio and have your name place on the wait list.
