Julia Hendon

Julia Hendon is an archaeologist whose enthusiasm for textiles stems from her exposure to the weaving traditions of Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. While excavating Maya cities she was thrilled to uncover weaving and sewing tools that demonstrated the antiquity of backstrap weaving in the region. This exposure led her to learn to weave. With her inkle loom she enjoys pick-up techniques such as Baltic Pick-up and Andean Pebble Weaving. With her multiharness treadle loom she likes to explore block weaves. The interplay of color, texture, and pattern is a constant delight.
