Sock Machine Driver's Ed

About class

This class for absolute beginners is taught by respected teacher Milissa Ellison Dewey of Bobbin Boy and Mountain Mama Weavers. In it, you use her renowned collection of antique and modern circular knitting machines and yarn to make a knitted sampler that you take home, so you can remember what you did…and so you can brag to your friends and family! She then takes you on a tour of the machines: each machine is from a different country and time. We finish with a round robin, during which each of you uses each of the machines so you can get a feel for their similarities and differences. You graduate with your very own Sock Machine Learner’s Permit! You also walk away with your own labeled sampler and casting on basket; a latching up tool useful for all knitting; and a hand-turned toe jack (this is like a darning egg on steroids that is used for finishing both hand- and machine-knitted socks, and costs $50 by itself). Milissa also provides you with a link to handouts ranging from a list of basic supplies and suppliers; a bibliography of reference and teaching resources; and an overview of what you can make at each stage of learning. These are all yours, along with the experience of using these marvelous little machines.
