Over-Dyeing with a Carved Wood Resist

About class

This is a one-day class exploring the unique method of over-dyeing a fabric piece using cold water dyes and incorporating a resist technique with each dye bath. An assortment of carved wood resist blocks with be provided in class to mix or reposition as the student plans each dye procedure. Students will make a “chart path” of each sample so they can understand and create a successful patterned piece and thus have a record of the methodology. A resource list and recipes will be included. Students will learn about fabric preparations, synthetic dyes for cellulose fabrics and finishing for colorfastness.
