How to Finish Your Handwovens
About class
A whole day devoted solely to the finishing of handwovens! Class will detail the two-step process of finishing the fabric by washing/fulling and finishing through stabilizing the edges. Step 1: you will learn how to wash cottons, linens and wool fabrics when they first come off the loom. We will also discuss how to handle them in future washings. Step 2: Each student will make a sampler on a pre-warped loom. This will teach you our tricks for making an evenly rolled hem, will also practice hemstitching both ends of the piece, plus how to do ladder and trellis hemstitches. Later in the day you will receive a pre-woven mat so you can learn about weft protectors such as overhand knots, Damascus, and Philippine edges. Class will conclude with warp protectors such as 3, 4, and 5 strand flat braided fringe, twisted fringe, sennit and square knots. All materials included in tuition.
