Dyeing to Spin

About class

The nice thing about fiber arts is there is no correct chronological order that dictates one step needing to precede another. There is no rule to say you must begin with a natural colored fleece, spin it, dye it and then knit or weave with it. In this course we will specifically examine several different dye processes that precedes the spinning process to create unique effects difficult to produce with a white skein of yarn. Using a combination of commercial rovings and raw fleeces spinners will have a variety of fibers to work with. Some techniques we will be exploring include creating gradient yarns using different techniques, mélange or heather tones and much more. Bring your wheel along to sample your hand-dyes beauties or arrange to borrow one of our studio wheels. All dyes and spinning fibers are included with the class tuition.
